This Is The Place Heritage Park

Who owns This Is The Place Heritage Park?

The Park is owned and operated by the State of Utah and is a State Park. In 1998 the State Legislature formed a non-profit foundation to manage The Park. The Park experience includes the history of the settling of the West and is non-denominational.


What are your hours of operation?

This Is The Place Heritage Park is open 6 days a week. See our hours and admissions webpage for details and specific hours of operation as they vary by the season or time of year. The Gift Shop at the Visitor Center is open from 9am to 6pm Monday through Saturday. The Village is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00 pm. For additional information and specific details of hours of operations seasonally, please call Customer Service at 801.582.1847.


Who do Tour Bus Companies call to schedule a tour?

Please call Tresha Kramer at 801.652.0353 (cell and best contact number) or 801.924.7530 (office) to schedule your tour. We offer accommodations for meals and private tours. Group rates are available.


What is a membership?

Memberships to This Is The Place Heritage Park are annual passes that include unlimited entry to the Village, unlimited pony and mini train rides and discounts to select retail sites. Visit our membership section on this site to learn more about how you can have FUN all year long by purchasing an annual membership!


Are pets allowed at This Is The Place?

Pets are not allowed within Heritage Village, the Gift Shop or Pioneer Center, for their safety and for the safety of our animals. Leashed pets are welcome on the grounds outside Heritage Village. Service animals are allowed in the Village with certain exceptions.


Are hoverboards, scooters, bikes, etc. allowed?

For the safety of all guests, these types of toys are not allowed. This Is The Place staff may ask visitors to return these items to their vehicles.


Were all the buildings originally found at this location?

All of the buildings you will see at The Park were either re-located from their original site, or reconstructed and placed in the Park. None of them stood on this site originally. The Village as you see it today, represents an early settlement in the Utah territory.


Is the facility handicap accessible and do you provide wheelchairs/strollers?

Most, but not all of our areas and historical buildings are accessible by wheelchair, including our trains. We offer wheelchairs free of charge, on a first come, first serve basis at the Visitor Center. At this time we do not offer strollers for rent. We encourage guests with children to bring their own strollers. If you have specific special needs, please notify us prior to your visit.


May I bring food into The Park/Village?

Yes, guests are allowed to bring food and beverages into the Park. We also offer snacks and drinks at the Visitor Center, Brigham's Donuts at the donut shop, drinks and candy at the ZCMI candy shop, flavor burst ice cream cones at the Huntsman Saloon, and great grub at the Huntsman Grill. Vendor machines serving beverages are also found throughout the Park. Please consult your map for details and locations. Advanced reservations for groups larger than 30 are required for the Huntsman Grill.


How much time should we plan for our visit?

There is so much to see and do at The Park, that there is no set time that will suit all visitors. The Park offers more than you can do in a day, but enough to fill several well-planned hours. We suggest looking over our menu of activities and beginning with those you absolutely don't want to miss! And plan enough extra time in to enjoy lunch with us at the Huntsman Grill!


Can we pet the animals?

We strive to give our guests an "interactive, hands-on" experience. Guests can pet many of our animals. Please do not feed our animals, chase them or tease them. Be kind to them at all times.

PiONEER HISTORY

When did the pioneers arrive in Utah?

On July 24, 1847, the pioneers arrived in the valley of the Great Salt Lake. From the back of his wagon, Brigham Young, who was ill with mountain fever, looked out at the vast desert below and declared, "This is the right place, drive on."



Building Rentals

How much does it cost to rent a building at This Is The Place?

Our building rental pricing can be found here. Listed are the 11 different buildings we rent, their capacity and price.


Do you have a barn we can rent?

We have 2 barns that have animals in them and are not rental buildings. We have The Garden Place that has beams inside similar to a barn and is fabulous for events such as weddings, corporate parties, and family reunions.


If we have an event at This Is The Place, can we bring our own food?

We have many different caterers to choose from listed on our catering web page. If you choose not to use one of our caterers and bring your own food or bring another caterer, you are charged an extra fee (listed under the catering list).


Can our guests at our event visit the Village at This Is The Place?

Our Village is open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. To enter the buildings and to participate in such activities as train rides, pony rides, petting corral, etc. a ticket is required. With the rental of a building, your guests can purchase tickets for 1/2 price at the Visitors Center.


Can we take bridal pictures at This Is The Place?

Yes. If you are having your wedding at This Is The Place there is no charge. If you are not having your wedding here, then there is a $50.00 a day photo pass fee. Photographers can purchase an annual pass for $250.00. When doing pictures here, an appointment must be made by calling our event office at 801.924.7507. Photo passes can be purchased at the Visitors Center between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM.



School Field Trips

How do we make a reservation for a field trip?

What are your hours for field trips?

School Tours are held from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm and 11:00 am - 1:30 pm. Please contact Kim Liston at 801.924.7534 if you need special accomodations outside of these times.


How many adult chaperones do you require?

We do not require a minimum amount of chaperones, but we do ask that for PreK - 2nd grade, teachers limit chaperones to one per every five studentes, and for 3rd grade and up, one per every 10 students. Every parent or chaperone will be required to pay an entrance fee specific to the type of field trip.


Can we explore the park on our own after a field trip?

We do not allow self-exploration with guided field trips. However, we offer a self-guided field trip option, available June-August, that allows your group to explore the Park on your own. Learn more HERE or contact us at 801.924.7534 or kliston@thisistheplace.org.
