This Is The Place Heritage Park

Children Dancing

FIFTH GRADE

Come join us for a Westward Movement experience. We have set up a field trip at This Is The Place that will enhance your social studies curriculum. Your students will discover what life was like in Pioneer times.

Our program consists of a visit to an actual dugout cabin, where the children will learn what it was like to live in just one room with a dirt wall. They will have hands on pioneer experience as they try to plow and prepare the ground for planting. Next they will actually pull handcarts and discover what it was like to move westward.

Our resident Civil War soldier will show the children what his camp was like. He will be cooking up some actual civil war meals and they will see how he dressed.

Lastly you may experience Ottinger Hall (A fire museum), or help the printer at the Desert News Press print out a pioneer paper.
